MP38, MP40 and MP41 serial number database

Since 2007, I have been collecting serial numbers and details of MP38s, MP40s, and MP41s. To date (as of December 2024), collectors, museums, police forces, military personnel, auction houses, and websites have shared approximately 950 unique serial numbers with me. At a certain point, I stopped recording the non-matching MPs, as these do not contribute significantly to our understanding of the weapons’ history or production. However, even many "matching" firearms are not as original as they may seem—85 years is a long time, and a lot of modifications and restorations can occur!

One of the challenges in documenting these serial numbers is the suffixes. These can sometimes be difficult to identify, as the letters are often written in the Sütterlin script, which can be tricky to interpret. If you have difficulties recognizing a letter check the Sütterlin alphabet to the right or send me an e-mail.

If you’d like to share the details of your MP with me, I’d greatly appreciate it! I’ve created a simple form below for you to fill out. If you’re able to include photos of your MP, that would be even better. To the right of the form, I’ve provided examples of the types of photos I’d prefer to receive.

Please rest assured that I handle all emails with the utmost privacy. I do not publish any names, email addresses, or other personal information—only the details about the MP itself.
